10 tips for family photography
When you think of updating your family photos, what do you feel? Stress? Excitement? Dread?
When you book a family session with me in Kamloops, BC, my focus is to ensure you have quality family time with your littles. Let go of the stress, the need for perfection, and the need for your kids to be on their best behaviour. That’s not real life!
So, how do we achieve this?
10 Tips for Stress Free Family Photos
Plan for a later evening. The majority of my sessions take place at golden hour, so adjust nap times as necessary to accommodate your session start time.
Ensure everyone is fed; bring snacks if you need to (that are quick and easy to eat)! Avoid anything that is going to get stuck in your teeth or stain clothing.
Look over my wardrobe recommendations ahead of your session and allow time to plan your wardrobe. Please reach out as I am happy to provide guidance.
Leave lots of time to get ready. Showing up for your shoot on time is important, as we have a finite amount of light to work with during golden hour sessions.
Dress for the location. Know where you’re going and wear clothes that make sense. Kids are going to have more fun in clothing they can run around in and that are comfortable. Parents - wear clothes that you feel good in.
Let me know some of your kids favourite songs ahead of the session. I will bust out Frozen any time of day.
Let your littles play, run, get dirty, and tantrum. It is all okay. I encourage you to play and run with them, jump in the water, console their tears.
That said, bring a change of clothes as a precaution in case clothing gets stained or wet during the shoot.
You don’t have to look at the camera. I will provide prompting and direction when needed; just focus on interacting with and loving on each other.
Don’t stress it! Your images will turn out magical and I am there to guide you. Focus on loving each other up and the rest will follow.
